The State of the City luncheon opened with several pieces by the Santiago High School Jazz Ensemble 1 lead by Kris Parish and Joe Dudek, The Santiago Band will represent California in the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade, the first band from this region to be selected for this honor. At the luncheon, the talented young musicians performed a variety of jazz pieces and delighted the capacity audience with the stellar quality of their performance. The Young Americans are celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and displayed their diverse musical abilities to close the event. Headquartered in Corona, the renowned group performs at international venues throughout the year with several of its members having just returned from a tour in Japan the day before the State of the City. Over a hundred members of The Young Americans took the stage to highlight the variety of musical genres they frequently perform and received a standing ovation from the crowd several times over the course of their impromptu program. The group was formed in 1962 by Milton Anderson and is dedicated to promoting understanding and goodwill around the world through music, dance, and culture. Comprised of young performers from all over the world, The Young Americans are hosting Summer Workshops at their Corona Headquarters beginning in July.
